John Niven – Kill Your Friends

This has to be one of my most favourite books of all time and influenced alot of my early writing styles if you can remember them. I read it back in ’08 when I was a student studying music and I definitely felt that this was how it really was inside the music industry until Benny Scarrs dispelled that myth somewhat when visiting a project aimed at getting people into the industry through internships.

The plot is dark and lightheartedly sinister, solid throughout but gets quite shakey towards the ending. It’s a terrific read, I became immersed in the plot and didn’t want to put the book down. I felt like I was inside the characters mind and the observations reminded me of how I Am Legend was written, but this was from a much more sinister narrative of an underdog who transforms into a lovable villain.
